Story bible

Lore, your living story bible

Lore is the story bible built into Plotiar. Define your own entry types, connect characters and places with labeled relationships, and see where each one is mentioned across your manuscript, with no AI involved. It lives in the same project as your chapters and comes with every plan, including Free.

What Lore does today

Your world, next to the pages it lives in

Every character, place, faction and rule of magic gets an entry, in the same project as the manuscript. Nothing to copy between apps, and nothing to keep in sync by hand.

Lore in Plotiar: entries, their fields and the labeled relationships between them.
  • Entry types you define

Make the types your world needs, each with its own icon, color and default fields. Fields come in ten kinds, from short text and dates to lists and references to other entries.

  • Relationships, both ways

Connect entries with a label in each direction, such as "mentor of" and "student of". The graph shows the whole web; click or tap a node, or press Enter on it, to open the entry.

  • Mentions found for free

Lore finds every name and alias in your documents without AI, counts the mentions, and shows on a heatmap where each entry appears. Turn on auto-link and mentions become links with a preview card.

  • Rename across the bible

Rename a character once and Lore updates names, aliases, descriptions, fields, relationships, progressions and notes, after showing you every match. Each changed entry keeps its old version in History.

  • Change over the story

Progressions record how an entry changes from a given chapter on. POV knowledge records what each point-of-view character knows, so the AI context preview shows their view, not the whole world.

  • Views and portraits

Filter entries by type, tag, description, portrait and more on every plan, and save a filter as a view on Plus. Give an entry a portrait, cropped to fit, with a description for readers who cannot see it.

  • A public wiki

Publish the entries and fields you choose as a wiki anyone with the link can read. Private notes are never published, and a spoiler level hides an entry until a reader says they have finished that book.

  • Back matter from your bible

On Plus, add a dramatis personae, a glossary or an editorial style sheet to an export, built from your Lore. The style sheet can go to a copyeditor on its own.

  • Bring it in, take it out

Import entries from Markdown, CSV, JSON or plain text, and see what will be added, updated or skipped before anything changes. Export the whole bible as JSON, Markdown or CSV on every plan.

AI on your terms

AI that reads your bible and never writes your book

On Pro ($12/month or $120/year), Plotiar's AI tools read your Lore as context. They suggest; you decide what goes into the bible. Each project has its own AI switch, and nothing is sent while it is off.

  • Find entries in chapters you have already written, then accept or reject each suggestion.
  • Check a document against your Lore for contradictions, with a suggestion for each one found.
  • The AI boundary panel lists what is sent: entry names, descriptions and the fields you mark visible.
  • Private notes and entries set to never are never sent, and Plotiar never uses your writing to train a model.

Coming to Lore

What we are building next

These are built and in testing, and not yet switched on for writers. Each one is marked until it is.

  • Coming soon

    Canon with sources

Facts that remember where they come from: each one cites the passage it rests on and the chapter from which it holds, so the bible can answer what was true at any point in the story.

  • Coming soon

    A review inbox

On Pro, run an update after a writing session and Lore proposes new entries and changed facts, each with the quote it comes from. Accept, edit, merge or reject each one. Nothing reaches your canon without your click.

  • Coming soon

    Continuity Guard

Free checks flag spelling drift, a character who appears after their death, impossible ages and story days that run backwards. On Pro, an AI check finds subtler contradictions, quoting both sides.

  • Coming soon

    Story time

Calendars with your own months and eras, a timeline of events, story days per scene, and a time machine that shows the bible as of any chapter.

  • Coming soon

    Ask your bible

On Pro, ask a question in plain words and get an answer built only from your bible and your pages, with every sentence citing its source. A sentence with no source is labeled as inference.

  • Coming soon

    Character interview

On Pro, put questions to a character as of a chosen chapter. Every answer cites your canon and flags what the character cannot know yet. Nothing from it can be inserted into your manuscript.

  • Coming soon

    Series and canon versions

One universe across several books, canon tags such as "Book 1 published", a diff between any two, what-if branches you can merge or discard, and a retcon ledger that exports as errata.

  • Coming soon

    Lore in the editor

Mentions underlined as you write, a hover card that shows an entry as of the current page, and a jump from any name to its entry.

  • Coming soon

    Reader links and wiki pages

Signed reader links that never show a spoiler past the chapter you allow, wiki pages search engines can find, and shareable character cards.

Questions

Questions about Lore

Short answers about the story bible as it works today.

  • Lore is Plotiar's story bible: an entry for every character, place, faction, object or rule in your world, with fields you define, labeled relationships shown as a graph, and mention detection across your manuscript. It lives inside your Plotiar project, next to your chapters.

  • Yes. Lore is included on every plan, including Free, which covers 5 projects. Saving a view, choosing a theme for the bible and adding back matter to an export need Plus ($5/month or $50/year). The AI tools need Pro ($12/month or $120/year), which includes about 250 credits of AI use a week.

  • No. Types, entries, relationships, the graph, mention detection, rename, progressions, views and the public wiki all work without AI. Mention detection matches names and aliases in your text directly, so it costs nothing and sends nothing to an AI provider.

  • On Pro, the AI receives entry names, descriptions, the fields you mark visible to AI, and the text of the document it is working on. Your private notes, entries set to never, your other projects and your account details are never sent. Each project has an AI switch, and Plotiar never uses your writing to train a model.

  • Yes. Import entries from Markdown, CSV, JSON or plain text. Before anything changes, Lore shows which entries it will add, update or skip. You can export the whole bible as JSON, Markdown or CSV at any time, on every plan.

  • Only the entries you publish, and only the fields you choose. Published entries form a wiki that anyone with the link can read, and your private notes are never published. A spoiler level hides an entry until the reader says they have finished a given book. Published pages can be copied, so publish only what you are happy to share.
