The home for everything you create

Projects are the top-level containers for everything you create in Plotiar. Each project can hold documents, flowcharts, idea boards, task boards, plot grids, and folders to organize them. Whether you are writing a novel, planning a product launch, or running a content calendar, a project keeps all related work together in one place.

Creating & Managing Projects

You can create as many projects as your plan allows and customize each one with a title, description, and tags.

    Create a new project

    From the Projects dashboard, click "New Project" in the top-right corner. Give your project a title and, optionally, a description and tags.

    Edit project details

    You can update the title, description, and tags at any time from the project settings. Click the project title in the header to rename it inline, or open settings for full editing.

    Delete a project

    Open the project settings menu and select "Delete". Deleted projects move to Trash and can be restored within 30 days. After that they are permanently removed.

  • Rename a project by clicking its title in the project header
  • Add or edit the project description to remind yourself (and collaborators) what the project is about
  • Add or remove tags at any time to keep your projects organized as your collection grows
TIP
If you are starting a new novel or screenplay, try creating your project from a template. Templates come with a pre-built folder structure, sample documents, and content types already configured.

Dashboard Views

The Projects dashboard supports two view modes so you can browse your projects the way that works best for you.

Card View

The default view. Each project appears as a visual card showing its title, description preview, tags, and last-modified date. Card view is great when you have a manageable number of projects and want to see details at a glance.

Table View

A compact, dense view that displays projects as rows in a table. Table view is ideal when you have many projects and want to scan, sort, and compare quickly. Toggle between views using the layout switcher in the top-right corner of the dashboard.

Your view preference is saved automatically, so you will see the same layout each time you return to the dashboard.

Search & Filters

As your collection of projects grows, search and filtering help you find what you need quickly.

Search

The search bar at the top of the dashboard searches across project names and tags. Start typing and the list narrows in real time. Clear the search to see all projects again.
  • Filter by tag to see only projects with a specific tag applied
  • Sort by name (A-Z or Z-A), date created, or last modified
  • Combine search and tag filters for precise results -- for example, search "chapter" within the "novel" tag

Project Tags

Tags are lightweight labels you attach to projects for organization. They appear as colored badges on project cards and can be used as filters on the dashboard.

  • Add tags when creating a project, or add them later from the project settings
  • Remove a tag by clicking the "x" on the tag badge in the project settings
  • Tags are shared across your workspace -- if you create a "fiction" tag on one project, it becomes available for all projects
  • Use tags to group projects by genre, client, status, or any category that helps you stay organized
TIP
Try using a consistent tagging system from the start. Tags like "in-progress", "draft", and "published" make it easy to see the status of each project at a glance on the dashboard.

You can upgrade or change plans at any time from Account Settings. All your existing projects and content carry over -- nothing is lost when you change plans.
