The AI Chat Assistant — Brainstorm Chat — is a conversational AI built into your writing workspace. Use it to brainstorm plot ideas, develop characters, overcome writer's block, explore alternative directions, or get feedback on passages. It understands your project context and can reference your documents when you ask. Each generation type produces actual content items in your project — documents, flowcharts, plot grids, corkboards, family trees, or taskboards — that you can edit, share, and export like any other content. BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) lets Pro users connect their own AI API keys from supported providers. Instead of using Plotiar's hosted AI credits, your AI requests go directly to your own API account. This gives you unlimited AI usage at your own API rates.

Pro plan users receive a weekly allowance of AI credits that refresh automatically. If you need more credits before your weekly refresh, you can purchase additional credit packages anytime from Account Settings.
