The World Anvil Alternative for Writing the Book Itself
World Anvil is a world encyclopedia, with Manuscripts connected to it from the Master plan up. Plotiar starts from the manuscript: Lore, its story bible, sits in the same project as your chapters on every plan, including Free, and finds where each entry is mentioned in your chapters.
Common frustrations with World Anvil
Writing the novel needs a paid plan
World Anvil's Manuscripts feature, where you write, edit and export novels connected to your world, needs the Master plan or higher. In Plotiar, the editor with real A4 pages and Lore are both on the free plan. (World Anvil plans as of 2026-09 - confirm current prices with the vendor.)
Family trees need Master
World Anvil's family trees and diplomacy webs are unlocked from the Master plan. Plotiar's family trees are on every plan, including Free. (World Anvil plans as of 2026-09 - confirm current prices with the vendor.)

What Plotiar offers that World Anvil doesn't
A manuscript editor on the free plan
Write the book itself on real A4 pages, next to its story bible, without upgrading. World Anvil keeps Manuscripts for its Master plan and up.
Family trees without an upgrade
Plotiar's family trees are on every plan, in the same project as your chapters and your Lore. On World Anvil, family trees start at the Master plan.
When World Anvil might be the right choice
We believe in honest comparisons. Here's where World Anvil still has an edge:
Your world is bigger than the books - with nations, religions and a history of its own, World Anvil's linked encyclopedia goes deeper than a story bible meant to serve a manuscript.
Purpose-built family trees and diplomacy webs - from the Master plan, houses, nations and their alliances live together in one world wiki.
Chronicles - World Anvil combines maps with timelines, so you can follow how the world changes over its history.
