Live Comments, Steadier Collaboration, And Screens That Never Hang -- Plotiar Product Updates (October 2026)

Plotiar Team4 min read

Two of us were editing the same chapter last week, one on a laptop and one on a tablet, and I left a comment on a paragraph she was rewriting. She did not see it for ten minutes. I only knew because I asked her out loud, which rather defeats the point of a shared document.

That is the theme of this week: things you should not have to wonder about. Did my collaborator see that? Is the page still loading or broken? Is this word in my language or not? A lot of small answers landed at once.

Comments Now Arrive While You Watch

New comment threads, replies, resolves and deletes now show up live for everyone who has the document open. Opening the Comments panel also fetches the latest threads, so you never start from a stale list. Declining a project invitation from the bell is recorded in the project's activity, and project owners now see revoked invitations there too.

Shared Editing Stays Out Of Your Way

Collaboration got a round of fixes for the moments where two people touch the same paragraph:

  1. If a collaborator presses Enter before your cursor in your paragraph, your next letter stays in your own text.
  2. A collaborator's caret stays on its text when your page moves, and a collaborator typing in a table cell or a code block is shown right there.
  3. A collaborator's name label fades when they stop moving, and comes back when you hover or tap.

Typing is steadier on its own, too. After you insert, paste or drag in an image, what you type now goes after the image. Redoing or undoing a footnote after a save puts everything back where it was. On Android, desktop and Chromebook, keys pressed while the keyboard is still composing a word are no longer lost, and arrow, Home and End keys move the cursor as they should.

A Page That Cannot Load Now Says So

Few things are worse than a spinner that never ends. A document that cannot load now shows "Couldn't load this document" with a Try again button. Any loading screen that lasts twenty seconds says so and offers the same. If you reopen the app without a connection, it opens your last document from the device, or tells you plainly that Plotiar can't be reached. The save indicator now says Offline when you are offline, instead of a scary sync error, and the offline notice no longer sits on top of the editor toolbar or the projects greeting.

More Of Plotiar Speaks Your Language

This week we went through screens that still showed English and translated them in all eight languages. Highlights: the theme picker and custom theme editor, the split-view pane picker, statistics and goals, Analyze charts and their screen-reader descriptions, maps, bookmarks and ambient sound, export typesetting choices, citation types and the equation editor, and the template picker. Comment notices, subscription notices and sharing and invitation emails now arrive in the reader's own language, and the "Something went wrong" screens speak it too.

Apps, Access And Smaller Fixes

On Android, signing in no longer stalls on an extra authorization page, and status bar icons stay readable on older phones. On Windows, uninstalling cleans up its link handler; on Linux, the installer now brings what the app needs to start. Screen readers can name and tick the Terms box and the task, document and filter checkboxes, and find each paragraph where it is actually drawn. Signing in as someone else never reopens the previous account's last screen. And a first request after Plotiar sat idle for a while no longer fails.

If something still feels like it is keeping a secret from you, tell us. That is the kind of bug we like most.
