Split View That Stays Put, a Pro Status That Agrees With Itself, and Smarter AI Studio Destinations -- Plotiar Product Updates (July 2026)
I once called a bookshop to ask if they had a specific novel in stock. The person on the phone said yes, come by anytime. I drove across town, parked, walked in, and the clerk at the counter told me they had not carried it in months -- the first person had been reading off a list nobody had bothered to update. Nothing was really lost except twenty minutes and a specific kind of annoyance: being told one thing and shown another.
None of that was Plotiar's fault. But it is exactly the shape of what we spent this stretch fixing -- a handful of places where the app said one thing and then, a click later, did something else.
Split View Now Keeps You Where You Left It
Three separate ways split view could strand you are fixed. Pressing Ctrl+\ used to go dead after you navigated away from your workspace and back through the app's own links, so a shortcut you had been using all session would suddenly stop responding, and the only way out was a manual reload. Opening split view from anywhere without a specific document already selected, like a project's contents list or its settings page, used to bounce you straight back out to the projects list instead of opening at all. And picking a project from an empty pane's content picker used to eject you out of split view entirely and drop you on the homepage, rather than loading that project into the pane you picked it for. All three now do what the interface implies they will do.
Your Pro Status Now Reads The Same Everywhere
Two related fixes here, both about the app disagreeing with itself over what you are actually paying for. A rare hiccup while checking your plan status could, on its own, flip a genuine Pro subscriber back to a free-tier gate for that one check, showing an upgrade prompt for a feature already unlocked. Separately, a subscriber whose trial had ended could be told to upgrade to Pro on one screen and, on clicking through, told she was already on Pro on the next. Both were reading the same account from two rules that could quietly disagree with each other. There is one rule now, and it gives the same answer everywhere in the app.
AI Studio Only Offers Projects You Can Actually Write To
The destination dropdown for generating new content into a project used to list every project you belonged to, including the ones where you only had view access. Picking one of those looked completely fine right up until you clicked generate, which then failed with a permission error that had nothing obviously to do with the dropdown you had just used. The list now only offers projects you can actually write to. If a project is missing from it, that is your answer, not a bug to work around.
Smaller Fixes Worth Knowing About
Swipe typing on Android through Gboard was inserting an extra space between words, so a fast typing session came out doubled up and needed cleaning up afterward -- that is fixed. In Inspect, an AI analysis that failed for a reason retrying could never solve, like being out of AI credits for the moment, used to show the same generic "failed, try again" as every other failure, which sent people retrying into a wall. It now tells you what actually went wrong. And a manual snapshot that failed to save used to report only "Failed to create snapshot" with nothing underneath it; it now tells you the real reason.
The clerk behind the counter was the one who actually knew the shelves. That is who should be answering the phone in the first place, and this stretch was mostly about making sure it is.
