Corkboards

Visual index card boards for planning scenes, chapters, and story structure

The Corkboard gives you a visual, tactile way to plan your story. Each index card represents a scene, chapter, or story beat that you can rearrange, color-code, and link to your documents. Think of it as a virtual version of the classic writer's corkboard with pushpins and index cards.

Creating a Corkboard

Create a corkboard anywhere in your project to start planning visually.

  1. 1

    Open a project

Navigate to the project where you want to create a corkboard.

  2. 2

    Click the + button

In the sidebar, click the add button and select "Corkboard".

  3. 3

    Name it

Give your corkboard a name, like "Act 1 Scenes" or "Chapter Outline".

CONSEJO
Create separate corkboards for different acts, plot threads, or parts of your story.

Index Cards

Each card on the corkboard represents a scene, chapter, or story beat. Cards have rich metadata to help you track your story's progress.

Title & Synopsis

Give each card a title and a brief synopsis. Double-click to edit inline, or open the card drawer for full editing.

Status Stamps

Mark cards as Idea, Draft, Revision, or Final. Status stamps appear as subtle diagonal overlays, just like a real rubber stamp.

Labels & Tags

Color-code cards by POV character, subplot, setting, or any category. Labels appear as colored bars on the card edge.

Linked Documents

Link a card to a document in your project. Click the link icon to navigate directly to the associated manuscript page.

View Modes

The corkboard offers three view modes to suit different planning styles.

Grid View

Cards snap to a configurable grid. Adjust the number of cards per row to match your plotting method.

Freeform View

Drag cards anywhere on the board, just like a real corkboard. Click "Commit Order" to save the spatial arrangement as your narrative sequence.

Label Lanes

Cards are automatically grouped into horizontal swim lanes by label, making it easy to see the balance across POV characters, subplots, or settings.

Drag & Drop

Rearranging your story is as simple as dragging a card.

Reorder Cards

Grab the drag handle on any card and move it to a new position. In grid mode, cards automatically reorder. In freeform mode, you control exact placement.
  • Drag cards between positions in grid view
  • Freely position cards anywhere in freeform view
  • Use "Commit Order" in freeform view to convert spatial positions into a linear sequence

Search & Filter

Find specific cards quickly using the toolbar controls.

Find Cards

Search by title or synopsis text. Filter by status (Idea, Draft, Revision, Final) or by label. Sort cards manually, by status, by label, or alphabetically.

Card Sizes

Choose between three card sizes to control how much detail is visible at a glance:

  • Compact — title and status only, for high-level overviews
  • Normal — title, 4-line synopsis, tags, and word count target
  • Large — full synopsis with 8 lines, all metadata visible
CONSEJO
Use compact size when you want to see your entire story structure on one screen, and large size when you need to read card details.
